Sealing is a concept that is basically defined as controlling the flow of fluids between more than one medium with any common boundary. In this article you will be informed about almost everything with detailed information about sealing.
What is Sealing?
It is a flat piece that does not mix the substances between any two different media, does not allow them to leak into each other’s environments, and is placed to prevent the passage of gas or liquid between the media with a Sealing Material. Since it is compressed, it does not cause any leakage and is a safe system.
However, no matter how small and safe it is, there can never be a rule that it prevents the flow of matter 100% due to the laws of chemistry. Instead of thinking in this way, it becomes a more functional concept if it is considered as a reasonable blockage of the flow between substances.
How is Sealing Achieved?
Setting a boundary for the functional gap between two media can be shown as one of the basic sealing methods. It is a very careful and delicate process. In addition to being a costly method, there is also a sealing method consisting of separate parts. This process consists of reinforcing materials that we call Sealing Materials.
What are Sealing Materials?
In the method, which is one of the most preferred sealing methods in general, it is called the materials used to prevent and minimize the passage of matter between two different media. It is the whole of materials classified as contact, dynamic and non-contact. While the contact ones are divided into sub-areas as static, the dynamic ones are divided into rotational motion and linear motion.
For example, pastes are static sealing materials, while buckets fall into the dynamic part of the rotary motion. The labyrinth is among the non-contact Sealing Materials. All these elements are used in the sealing process in different functions and shapes. Sealing materials are important materials needed in many areas of life.
How is the Sealing Test Performed?
This test, which is basically required for products used in the medical field, pneumatic systems and pipelines and can also be defined as a serviceability test, aims to measure whether the product has the correct production and usage stages. There are types such as air tightness tests, water tightness tests, acoustic tightness tank test.
In these tests, which are assisted by a fan during the construction, pressure is applied inside the product and then air is sucked in and sent out. In the water test, it is done by dropping it into a water with this flow rate. After waiting for a while, it is repeated and the problem is solved.
